Bosnia and Herzegovina weather overview
With a mountainous interior and large rivers to its north and east, the climate of Bosnia and Herzegovina is similar to that of Eastern Europe: broadly hot in the summer, very cold in the winter but changeable all year round. The mountains can attract heavy rain at any time and winters can be fierce with snow lying in the hills for long periods.
The north is, by and large, colder and rainier than the south. Winters are gloomy here with little sunlight and temperatures often plunging into the minus scale. Best time to visit is between April and September, when you can expect pleasantly warm days and mild evenings. Always be prepared for showers, though.
What to pack for Bosnia and Herzegovina weather
Take very warm clothing and waterproofs in the winter. In the summer, lightweight clothing is tine unless you are heading for the north where warmer clothing will be needed.
