Prague nightlife: Discover the best bars, clubs & beer halls
Prague's a much-loved city break destination that boasts some of the most picturesque architectural landmarks in Europe, but it isn't just about the monuments and museums; did you know that this cosmopolitan city has the highest beer consumption per capita in the world?
Formerly part of South Bohemia and widely known for its beer brewing in Europe, it's thought that Prague's beer culture may date back as far as 990 AD to the time of the Bohemian monks. Today Prague is still known for its beer, and this gothic city attracts tourists from all over who come to sample its brews and nightlife.
When the sun goes down, the city really comes alive. From traditional beer halls with beer swilling locals and accordion players, to deep house beats of underground clubs, there's a place for every taste whether you're looking for a quiet drink with a loved one or some fun with friends.
Prague bars
If it's a taste of local culture you're after, the cavernous beer halls are the places to go. There are no private tables for two in these crowded establishments just lots of Czechs at long wooden benches having discussions over some good ol' ale. If this sounds like your kind of place, try U Fleku in the new town.
Bar crawls are big in the city and you'll often see up to two hundred people roaming the old square in convoy. There's so much choice but you can't visit Prague without popping into one of its underground bars. Chapeau Rouge is a small, quirky example right next to the old town. With electronic beats and a unique interior, it's the ideal bar to get the party started.
Take a trip back to the eighties at the Roxbury Club, a swanky bar inspired by the famous American comedy A Night At The Roxbury. Green lighting adds to its ambience and there's a large dance floor and plenty of seats to rest weary feet.
Prague clubs
If it's a dose of double trouble that you're after, the labyrinth cave bar of the same name, claims to be the wildest in Prague. With top house DJs and a podium to show off your moves, this club has a cool vibe and plenty of secluded spots from which you can simply sit and watch the drama unfold.
Somewhere that you shouldn't miss is Karlovy Lazne; the biggest music club in central Europe. Even if you're not into clubbing, it's worth the entrance fee to check out the design alone. Once a bathhouse, the club is laid out over five floors with illuminated retro tiles, laser beams and an interactive water wall. With so much variety to choose from and an Ice Pub downstairs, you're guaranteed to be entertained all night.
Wenceslas Square is a hive of activity when it comes to Prague nightlife with a plentiful selection of bars and clubs to choose from, however, if you'd prefer something a little more sophisticated, the symphonies and operas also draw in the crowds (just don't forget to try one of the Czech beers).
