Turkmenistan weather overview
The Kara-Kum 'Black Sands' Desert occupies most of this country, which lies in the driest region of the former Soviet Union and includes steppe as well as desert. Brace yourself for severe extremes of temperature; in summer, Turkmenistan roasts in temperatures as high as 45°C (113°F), while winter - though sunny and quite dry - can send them plunging to the minus 10s. Be prepared for a sharp fall in temperature at night, whatever the time of year.
What to pack for Turkmenistan weather
Take light clothing for the summer with warm wraps tor desert nights. A winter visit requires very heavy clothing with sturdy hats and warm scarves to keep out the wind.
