Mongolia weather overview
With Siberia to its north and China at its southern border, Mongolia consists largely of high plateau, with the Gobi Desert in its south and grasslands to the north and east. It has a brief, warm summer from April to October, then suffers an extremely cold Siberian-style winter which lasts for up to seven months and can be very harsh indeed. Icy winds make life unpleasant even though snowfall is rare, apart from in the western mountains.
What to pack for Mongolia weather
Although there are periods of winter sunshine, very heavy clothing is recommended. Even in the summer, you'll need warm clothing. Rainfall is generally low, but most likely to occur between June and September, in the period of China's summer monsoon. So go prepared for rain at this time.
