The top destinations are where you are likely to get at least seven hours of bright sunshine a day at the height of summer, and the rest are almost as sunny.
What's the sunniest place in the UK?
Eastbourne is the sunniest place in the UK with an average of 8 hours of sunshine a day in June, and Bognor Regis is only a little way behind with 7.7 hours of sunshine.
'Bright' sunshine is the term used to describe when the sun is not obscured by clouds. It can be quantified in two different ways - firstly as a straightforward 'number of hours of bright sunshine in the day' and secondly as a 'percentage of the total number of daylight hours in the day'.
This second indicator is useful because it takes into account day length - the number of hours from sunrise to sunset - so you can compare two places with different hours of daylight to discover what percentage of the day is cloud-free.
Not surprisingly June is usually the month with the most sunshine simply because there are more hours of daylight in June than in any other month.
However if you look for the month with highest percentage figure, this will show overall when conditions are most cloud-free, and for many places in the UK it is earlier or later in the summer.
