Bangladesh weather overview
This low-lying country, which lies at the head of the Bay of Bengal, has one of the world's rainiest climates, receiving an average of 2,500mm (100in) a year.
Temperatures are highest during the April to October rainy season and these combine with high humidity to produce a stifling, sultry heat which is very trying.
Thunderstorms are frequent during the early part of the rains (April to June) but the most dangerous time to be in Bangladesh is during the latter part of the southwest monsoon, in September and October.
At this time, devastating cyclones can arise bringing gale-force winds and ferocious downpours, whipping up coastal seas to cause extensive flooding of low-lying areas and often with considerable loss of life.
The rains tail off in November when the cool season begins and, until its end in February, life in Bangladesh is rather more tolerable. This is the period of maximum sunshine and temperatures are warm although evenings can be chilly.

What to pack for Bangladesh weather
Take light clothes with warmer wraps for evenings during the cool season and be prepared for heavy rain if you are visiting during the monsoon period.
